Brands in the City

SEX AND THE CITY & DESIGNERS

In the movie Sex in the City, the movie does an excellent job incorporating high in fashion brands though out the movie. The main character and her friends are commonly in awe over many different luxury priced shoes, handbags and dresses.
The main Character Carrie Bradshaw and her group of girlfriends are constantly talking fashion, and wearing designer brands. The women wearing the designers are product placement in itself. The charters aren’t flashing a sign with the brand name across but they may as well be. Shopping is also a common activity in this movie, and when the women do go out on a spree you see multiple bags with different luxury brand names and names of stores behind them as they walk by. The top ten name brands that are mentioned in Sex in the City are: Vogue mentioned 36 times, Martini mentioned 33 times, New York Knicks mentioned 25 times, New York Times mentioned 24 times, Yankees mentioned 20 times, Manolo Blahnik mentioned 16 times, Post-it mentioned 15 times, Dolce & Gabbana mentioned 15 times, Prada mentioned 14 times
Chanel mentioned 13 times
Although you would think that more fashion based brands would mentioned the top few have to do with actual designers. As for visual appearances the top ten that are shown are: Manolo Blahnik, Vivienne Westwood, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, Ferragamo, Roger Vivier, Diane von Furstenberg, Hermès, Christian Louboutin

You see Monolo Blahnik about as many times as you blink in this movie, they are constantly shown and are known for being Carries prized possession. Big, her fiancé even ultimately propses with one towards the end of the movie.
A famous wedding dress designer, Vivienne Westwood was seen and caught a lot of attention. In the movie she was designated the designer of the main characters infamous wedding dress, seen in multiple dramatic scenes in the movie.
The luxury brand purses Loius Vuitton, Channel, Hermès, and Dior simply advertise themselves in this movie, their brand names are seen on bags, scarfs, shirts, skirts, jackets and most anything you can think of. The ladies wear these designers like TCU students flaunt the color purple.
Christian Louboutin shoes in this movie are also some of the characters favorite, you can catch dramatic glimpses of the bright red soles of these top brand heels on almost every character though out the movie.
Product placement in this movie is used more than this blog post could possibly describe. These ladies shower themselves in luxury items and almost center their lives around such. These items are very high in price, and you wouldn’t see these type of women wearing them in real life but it was a good use of advertisement and gave luxury to the lives of the women on screen. Seeing these brands over and over again engraves a favorable, fanshionista opinion of these brands evoked by the attitudes and characters of the ladies in this film.
