Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Movie poster
is one of the most important ways to attract the audience. In “Captain America:
The Winter Soldier”, it’s no exception: the poster successfully communicates
the content, genre as well as entices people to see the movie.
At the top
of the poster, an introductory line could be easily seen:” From the studio that
brought you Avengers Assemble”. The film was produced by Marvel, a very popular
studio for almost every “Superhero” fan. However, that line still refers to
“The Avengers”, an extremely popular film, which grossed 1.5 billion dollars
worldwide (Wikipedia). The poster designer did a good job by creating an ethos
relying on “The Avengers” success to allure the audience into watching the
movie. In fact, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” was a commercial success
by gathering nearly 800 million dollars. (Wikipedia)
On the other
hand, 3 main characters are portrayed focally in the poster. Captain America
(Steve Rogers), starred by Chris Evans, walking in the middle which indicates
that he is the main character. Chris Evans is wearing the famous Captain
America suit, holding his symbolic shield in his left hand and walking in a
very confident, determining and even intimidating manner. Selecting Chris Evans
seemed to be an obvious decision as he has played the role of Captain America
in two movies before, including “Captain America: The First Avenger” and the
phenomenal “The Avengers”, so if he didn’t play this role this time, it would
be disappointing for his fans. Moreover, Chris Evans is famous of his signature
role as Captain America, with the ability of a leader (or a captain), the
handsome and decisive face, and his outstanding talent. To be specific, he has
won the Scream Awards for Best Superhero, MTV Movie Awards for Best Hero in
“Captain America: The First Avengers”, the MTV Movie Awards for Best Fight in
“The Avengers”, and actually won People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Action
Movie Star in Winter Soldier.
On the left
of Chris Evans is Scarlett Johansson, another movie star played the role of
Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in “Iron Man 2” and “The Avengers”. Her appearance
in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” triggers a huge interest in fans,
especially boys, as she is considered as “one of Hollywood’s modern Sex symbol”
(Wikipedia), and also appears in published lists of sexist women in the world,
including the title “Sexiest Women Alive” by Esquire and “Sexist Celebrity” by
Playboy. (Wikipedia). In the role of Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson has shown
great talent, in both action & romantic scene, and the fact that she stars
in the newest movie of Captain America will definitely attract a lot of fans.
On the right
of Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson is walking. He is a superstar with the
signature role of Nick Fury, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D, and many other roles in
successful movies such as Star Wars or Kingsman: The Secret Service. He has
starred in over 100 movies, which certainly brings him many experiences. These
three characters has shown their ethos successfully through the posters and
make the film a worldwide hit.
Beside these
three movie stars, an enormous “Hellicarrier” (word from the movie) can be
spotted in the background. The fact that anyone who hasn’t watched the trailer
will have absolutely no idea about that giant aircraft, and this will make them
even more curious. Looking into detail of the poster, we can see “The Winter
Soldier”/Bucky Barnes played by Sebastian Stan (the main villain and Steve’s
best friend), and Alexander Pierce, the secretary of S.H.I.E.L.D, played by
Robert Redford. These two mysterious character even make the movie more
attractive to the audience.
The poster
has effectively conveyed the genre and a little about the content through its meticulously
designed background by making use of pathos and legos. The fire and explosions
in the scene tell people about the genre, which is action and superhero. The
color is dark and fade, showing us the emotion of the film: dangerous,
betraying, … This poster clearly communicates with the audience about the
genre, the subject, the characters in an impeccable way. At the bottom of the
poster, we can see the cast, which will confirm us about the actors and actress
in the movie.
The poster
covers enough and also intentionally show some mysterious details of the movie
such as the Hellicarrier or the two character in the scene. The movie is a huge
success by grossing nearly 800 millions dollars, and rated by fans as the
second-best Marvel movie (after The Avengers).
